1. ONLINE APPLICATION STEPS

  • Non-Indian nationals should only utilize this form (i.e. Form 49AA) to apply for a PAN. A Qualified Foreign Investor (QFI) must, on the other hand, apply for a PAN in Form 49AA only via a Depository Participant.
  • The applicant will first register by choosing Form 49AA, along with the applicant’s category and title, and filling out the essential information before submitting. Before the applicant fills out the form, a token number will be produced and presented. For reference, this token number will be delivered to the e-mail address supplied in the application. This temporary token number may be used to store the information supplied in the application form so that they can be seen by the applicant prior to final submission.
  • A response identifying the error(s) will be presented on the screen if the data supplied passes any format level check.
  • The applicant must correct any errors and submit the form again.
  • If no format level errors exist, a confirmation page displaying the applicant’s data will be presented.
  • The applicant has the option to update or confirm the information.

2. PAYMENT

If you need a physical PAN card, you must:

When filling out the PAN application form, the applicant must specify if a physical PAN card is necessary. If the applicant chooses a physical PAN card, the card will be printed and sent to the communication address. If an e-mail address is supplied in the PAN application form, an e-PAN card in PDF format will be sent to that address. The following fees are applicable:-

If you don’t need a physical PAN card:

If a physical PAN card is not needed, the PAN applicant must note this while submitting the application. In such circumstances, an email address will be required, and the PAN applicant’s e-PAN Card will be provided to that address. In such instances, a physical PAN card will not be sent. The following fees are applicable:-

  • If either the office or residence address is a foreign address, payment may only be made by credit card, debit card, Net banking, or Demand Draft payable in Mumbai (written in favor of ‘Protean – PAN’).
  • This feature is currently accessible for a limited number of countries. Applicants from other countries should contact Protean using the information listed in point (5).
  • On the back of the demand draft, the applicant’s name and the acknowledgement number should be written.
  • Payment with credit card, debit card, or net banking – The following individuals are authorized to make credit card, debit card, and net banking payments:

Trust / Artificial Juridical Person / Local Authority / Association of Person(s) / Body of Individuals / Association of Person(s) Section 140 of the Income Tax Act of 1961 applies to Authorised Signatories.

An acknowledgement will appear after a successful credit card, debit card, or net banking payment. The applicant must save and print the acknowledgement before sending it to Protean as described in point ‘u – Mode of Document Submission’ below.

3. ACKNOWLEDGEMENT

  • An acknowledgment screen with downloadable acknowledgement receipt will appear after confirmation, and in the event of credit card, debit card, or net banking payment (on successful payment). The applicant’s e-mail ID provided in the application will get an e-mail with this acknowledgment receipt (in PDF) and payment receipt (in PDF) as attachments.
  • This acknowledgement must be saved and printed by the applicant.
    Individual applicants should add two current color pictures (3.5 cm × 2.5 cm) in the area given in the acknowledgement when submitting a “Application for issuance of new PAN.” The acknowledgement should not be attached or clipped with the image. (The quality and clarity of the picture connected to the form will determine the clarity of the image on the PAN card.)
  • Signature / left hand thumb imprint should be supplied across the picture fastened on the left side of the acknowledgment, such that a piece of the signature/impression appears on both the photo and the acknowledgement receipt.
  • The image adhered to the right side of the acknowledgment should not include the signature or left thumb mark. The application may not be processed if there is a blemish on the image that prevents the clear vision of the applicant’s face.
  • Signatures and left thumb impressions should only be placed in the acknowledgement box. The approved signatory (Karta in case of HUF, Director in case of Company, Partner in case of Partnership Firm / LLP, Trustee in case of Trust, and Authorized signatory in the rest categories) must sign the acknowledgment receipt in the case of non-individual PAN applicants. Seal and/or Stamp are not needed on PAN application Form 49AA for non-individual PAN applications.
  • If a thumb imprint is utilized, it shall be confirmed under official seal and stamp by a Magistrate, Notary Public, or Gazetted Officer.

4. DOCUMENT SUBMISSION METHOD

  • The acknowledgment, duly signed and affixed with photographs (in the case of ‘Individuals’), should be sent to Protean at ‘Income Tax PAN Services Unit, Protean e-Governance Infrastructure Limited, 5th Floor, Mantri Sterling, Plot No. 341, Survey No. 997/8, Model Colony, Near Deep Bungalow Chowk, Pune – 411 016’, along with the Demand Draft,
  • The applicant’s name must match the name on the certificate of identification and proof of residence. Individuals, HUFs, Bodies of Individuals, Associations of Persons, and Artificial Juridical Persons must present evidence of domicile at the location specified in the application.
  • ‘APPLICATION FOR PAN — N-15 digit Acknowledgement Number’ (e.g. ‘APPLICATION FOR PAN — N-881010200000097’) should be written on the envelope.
  • Within 15 days after submitting your online application, Protean should receive your acknowledgement, demand draft, and proofs.
  • Demand draft applications will only be handled if all necessary evidence have been received and payment has been made.
  • Applications paid by credit card, debit card, or net banking will be processed after all required papers are received (acknowledgment and proofs).
