1. ONLINE APPLICATION STEPS
- The applicant will complete and submit the PAN Change Request Form online. Both citizens and non-citizens of India will be required to fill out the same form.
- The applicant will first pick PAN Change Request, as well as citizenship, category, and title, before filling out the needed information and submitting the form. Before the applicant fills out the form, a token number will be produced and presented. For reference, this token number will be delivered to the e-mail address supplied in the application. This temporary token number may be used to store the information supplied in the application form so that they can be seen by the applicant prior to final submission.
- While filling out the online PAN Change Request application, the applicant may choose from one of four choices.
- A response identifying the error(s) will be presented on the screen if the data supplied passes any format level check. The applicant must correct the error(s) and resubmit the application.
- If there are no format level errors, the applicant’s data will be shown on a confirmation page. The applicant has the option of editing or confirming the information.
- Fill in all obligatory fields (marked with a *) of the Form and choose the relevant box on the left margin of the applicable field where adjustment is needed for changes or corrections in PAN data.
- Fill all fields in the Form but do not choose any boxes on the left margin if the application is for re-issuance of a PAN card without any changes in the applicant’s PAN relevant data.
- The address for communication will be updated in the ITD database using the address for communication supplied in the application in the event of either a request for Change or Correction in PAN data or a request for re-issuance of a PAN Card without any changes in PAN data.
- Fill in all essential fields in the Form, enter the PAN to be cancelled in Item No.10 of the Form, and tick the check box on the left margin to cancel the PAN. The PAN to be cancelled should not be the same as the PAN specified at the beginning of the Form (the one presently in use).
2. THE PAYMENT
If a physical PAN card is necessary, follow these steps:
When filling out the PAN application form, the applicant must specify if a physical PAN card is necessary. If the applicant chooses to get a physical PAN card, the card will be printed and sent to the communication address. If an e-mail address is supplied in the PAN application form, an e-PAN card in PDF format will be sent to that address. The following fees are applicable:-

If a physical PAN card is not necessary, follow these steps:
If a physical PAN card is not needed, the PAN applicant must note this while submitting the application. In such circumstances, an email address will be required, and the PAN applicant’s e-PAN Card will be provided to that address. In such instances, a physical PAN card will not be sent. The following fees are applicable:-

- If one of the addresses, such as the office or home address, is a foreign address, payment may only be made by credit card, debit card, Net banking, or Demand Draft payable in Mumbai (written in favor of “Protean – PAN”). On the back of the demand draft, the applicant’s name and the acknowledgement number should be written. This feature is currently accessible for a limited number of countries. Applicants from other countries should contact Protean using the information listed in point (5).
- If you apply online using the e-KYCe-Sign paperless application/ e-Sign scanned based/ DSC scanned based option (rather than the physical approach), you can only pay with a credit card, debit card, or Net banking.
- Payment with credit card, debit card, or net banking – The following individuals are authorized to make credit card, debit card, and net banking payments:

- An acknowledgement will appear after a successful credit card, debit card, or net banking payment. The applicant must save and print the acknowledgement before sending it to Protean as described in point ‘4. Mode of Document Submission’ below.
- Please visit here (for applications submitted on or after July 16, 2016) or here (for applications submitted on or before July 15, 2016) to regenerate your acknowledgment receipt.
3. ACCEPTANCE OF ACKNOWLEDGEMENT
- An acknowledgment screen with downloadable acknowledgement receipt will appear after confirmation, and in the event of credit card / debit card / net banking payment (on successful payment). The applicant’s e-mail ID provided in the application will get an e-mail including this acknowledgment receipt (in PDF) as well as a payment receipt (in PDF) as attachments.
- This acknowledgement must be saved and printed by the applicant.
Individuals submitting a “PAN Change Request Application” should include two current color pictures (3.5 cm x 2.5 cm) in the acknowledgement box. The acknowledgement should not be stapled or clipped with the image attached. (The quality and clarity of the picture connected to the form will determine the clarity of the image on the PAN card.) - Signature / left hand thumb imprint should be supplied across the picture fastened on the left side of the acknowledgment, such that a piece of the signature/impression appears on both the photo and the acknowledgement receipt.
- The image adhered to the right side of the acknowledgment should not include the signature or left thumb mark. The application may not be processed if there is a blemish on the image that prevents the clear vision of the applicant’s face.
- Signatures and left thumb impressions should only be placed in the acknowledgment’s signature box. The authorized signatory (Karta in the case of a HUF, Director in the case of a Company, Partner in the case of a Partnership Firm / LLP, Trustee in the case of a Trust, and Authorized signatory in the remaining categories) must sign the acknowledgement receipt in the case of non-individual PAN applicants. Seal and/or Stamp are not required on the PAN application form “Request for New PAN Card or/and Changes or Correction in PAN data”
- If a thumb imprint is utilized, it shall be confirmed under official seal and stamp by a Magistrate, Notary Public, or Gazetted Officer.
4. DOCUMENT SUBMISSION METHOD
- The acknowledgment, duly signed and affixed with photographs (in the case of ‘Individuals’) should be sent to Protean at ‘Income Tax PAN Services Unit, Protean e-Governance Infrastructure Limited, 5th Floor, Mantri Sterling, Plot No. 341, Survey No. 997/8, Model Colony, Near Deep Bungalows’ along with demand draft, if any, proof of existing PAN, proof of identity
- There is no need to transmit physical documents to Protean for e-KYCe-Sign, e-Sign based, or DSC based online PAN applications since they are completely paperless.
- If Aadhaar is specified in the application (applicable only to individuals), a copy of the Aadhaar allotment letter should be given to Protean together with the acknowledgment and supporting papers. If the petitioner is a MINOR, the minor’s Aadhaar must be included in the application form. The applicant’s data as listed in the application form will be used to authenticate the Aadhaar number (if submitted).
‘APPLICATION FOR PAN — N-15 digit Acknowledgement Number’ (e.g., ‘APPLICATION FOR PAN — N-881010200000097’) should be written on the envelope. - Within 15 days after submitting your online application, Protean should receive your acknowledgement, demand draft (if applicable), and proofs.
- Demand draft applications will only be handled if all necessary evidence have been received and payment has been made.
- Applications paid by credit card, debit card, or net banking will be processed after all required papers are received (acknowledgment and proofs).
