How to Apply for EU Settlement Scheme Explained

In this post we´d like to share some information with you about the EU Settlement Scheme.

As you probably know, the UK has now left the EU and as of January 2021, the immigration rules will be changing.

EU Settlement Scheme

It´s crucial now for EU citizens to secure Settlement Status in order for them to be able to work in the UK next year. In order to apply, you´ll need to download the EU Exit Document Check app and coplete the requested fileds. You´ll need to have an ID card or passport, an email address and a phone number in order to make your application.

If you´re currently in the UK, then you can apply bu providing evidence of this. You can apply even if you´re not in the UK, but you must be able to provide evidence of previously being here.

If you haven´t obtained the National Insurance Number yet, don´t worry, you can still apply by providing other evidence, such as a P45, a bank statement or a Council Tax bill.

If you do not have 5 years of continuous residence when you apply, you´ll usually get a Pre-Settled status. You can stay in the UK for a futher 5 years from the date that you get Pre-Settled status.

  • Pre-Settled Status: When you´ve lived in the UK for less than 5 years.
  • Settled Status: When you´ve lived in the UK for over 5 years.

You can then apply to change this to Settled Status, once you´ve got 5 years of continuous residence here in the UK. You must do this before your Pre-Settled status expires.

If you have lived in the UK for a continuous 5-year period for at least 6 months in each 12-month period, you´ll get Settled Status.
